Why prep protects your budget
At Culticlayer you get 2 iso booths and an engineer who handles gain staging and headphone mixes. Without final lyrics you can lose twenty to thirty minutes printing, fixing typos or describing a structure the engineer has never heard.
Vocal rates include €92 per hour and €310 for a half day. Every minute spent on logistics is a minute off the mic — simple maths, not a sales pitch.
Lyrics, form and references
Bring definitive lyrics in a readable layout: double spacing, clear verse/chorus labels and ad-libs on their own lines. If you sing in English but annotate in Dutch, include both so we know where stresses fall.
Send a rough mix or guide track (wav or mp3) with fixed tempo and key. Mention BPM and key in your mail to [email protected] so we do not guess what you hear in the headphones.
Voice health and timing
Do not book heavy belting the morning after a late night. Hydrate the day before, skip smoking right before the session and eat lightly — an empty or overloaded stomach both feel awkward at the pop filter.
Cold or hoarse? Call 020 737 4821 at least 5 days ahead to reschedule; cancellation rules are in our terms and conditions. One sharp session later beats forcing takes you will redo anyway.
What to bring physically
- USB drive or laptop with project backups — name your DAW in the booking message.
- Your own in-ears if you rely on them; otherwise we supply studio headphones.
- Allergy medication if dust in older buildings triggers you — our Oud-West rooms are maintained, but tell us anyway.
- Lyrics on paper and digitally in case Wi-Fi is slow.
Street parking is tight; Tram 7 stops at Bilderdijkstraat; from the Bilderdijkstraat stop it is about a 3-minute walk to number 112. From Amsterdam Centraal, tram 7 towards Slotervaart takes roughly 12 minutes. By bike from Leidseplein it is about 8 minutes via Overtoom.. Arrive ten minutes early rather than sprinting from the tram.
Estimating time and booking
One stacked chorus costs less than album-wide lead vocals. Plan three to five takes per section plus comp time. Backing layers add up: each harmony is another tuning and blend pass.
A half day is four hours blocked; a full studio day is €565. We ask for a 25% deposit on booking — see contact. Hours: Tuesday–Friday 10:00–19:00, Saturday 12:00–17:00. Closed Sunday and Monday..
Inside the booth with us
The engineer sets the condenser for your voice, checks plosives and builds a headphone mix with you — too much reverb shows up immediately. We record non-destructively and hand over raw takes plus session exports when possible.

Rights, age and archives
Recordings follow our terms and privacy policy. Performers aged 16 and up may book alone; younger artists need a parent or guardian on site.
We keep project files 18 months unless agreed otherwise. Download masters inside that window; extended storage is quoted on request.
